Final Design

Site:Plan & SectionThe entire building turns toward the north side so that the bedroom at back could get as much as sunlight during the winter days which showed in the following pictures. The entrance space in front of the building was design to place outdoor sculptures and gathering people. The space at the back of building was treated to be a garden for apartment functions and also a private car park for painter.

Privacy Drawing:
There is a clear circulation dividing the private and public use of building. The blue part is the public are which accessed by the main entrance at the front and the red part is the private area which accessed by the door at the back of building. The yellow part is the office, workshop and living area which considered as semi-private because it serves the parinter himself as well as the gallery function. The office can be access from the side door besides the main entrance.


Elevation:
The elevation shows the different character of gallery to the building adjacent. The gallery is distinguished to its adjacent building with its modernism style.

Poche Render

The hand-drawing of light effects render of the gallery space shows the light quality of the gallary show room. The top one are the series of small rooms which gains soft lights from the ceilings. The bottom one show the bedroom light at first level and large exhibition room at ground level.


Ground Level:Level One & bedroom sunlight:
Images showing the bedroom sunlight on 21 Jun. The sunlights fills half of the room at 9am and entire room at 12am, and warm up the bedroom whole day during the winter.
The office and workshop could also get sufficient sunlight during the day. And also by allowing the outdoors space in front of building gives a wide view from office and workshop.

Model

The louvers at both front and back of building filter the lights for gallery space, however still make it possible when it needs light.

Phase Two

The stair at front facade of building was added to serve the cafe. For the purpose that the cafe could operate as a seperate part to the gallery. When the gallery is closed, people still can get to the cafe straight away without walk through the gallery.

Narrative: A yound lady sitting in a small dark room practising keyboard, attracted by something else.

Regarding to this narrative, i want to build a place which allow this lady to practise and learning musical instrument quietly and undisturbedly. So, the place i choosed i a house in Shanghai located in an very quiet area in the city. This room is basically a practise room and a outdoor garden for small performance, which give an opportunity to the lady to get some performance experience.

The room is belong to parts of the house. The feature of this practise room is a rotating stage which can either turn towards practise room and garden, which reduce the trouble to move instruments when performing and also adds interesting to the performance. The room is closed by walls in order to have quality of sound for the practise room. The richness of artificial lights increase the effects of performance and musical practise.
